A digital illustration depicting the dramatic final scenes of Akira. I remember how impactful the ending was, how melancholic if not beautiful it was, even after the events that lead to it. This piece is a 3D render created in Unreal Engine as an experiment to see how far I could push the style away from feeling like a CG image and towards something that evokes a feeling of ukiyo-e style painting or woodblock print. "Ukiyo-e" translates to "Pictures of the floating world" which in the case of the ending of Akira, can be interpreted in several ways.
