Rituals of Becoming

“Rituals of Becoming” is a travelling exhibition that follows the mythical journey of Selung: a wanderer with the head of a hornbill, born from SONG’s travels and encounters across Sarawak. Inspired by the landscapes, stories, and people of Sarawak, Selung becomes both guide and reflection, embodying the transformation that comes from moving through unfamiliar lands and interacting with the people met along the way.

As the exhibition journeys through different cities, each destination becomes a new chapter, featuring dialogues and collaborations with local artists from Borneo whose practices are rooted in their own cultural heritage. These encounters continue Selung’s evolving story, where mythology and tradition intertwine into new rituals in our modern world, as well as a transformation of SONG’s artistic journey.
